5 LIGHT HORSE REGIMENT Trooper

This war book is the personal diary history of the 5th Light Horse Regiment by Australian Ion Idriess during WW1

Ion Idriess's Greatest Stories. Volume One: Miners and Soldiers ' by Ion L. Idriess . Has the full copy of Desert Column included with The Silver City , Lightning Ridge . The Desert Column was first published in 1932 . Very very difficult to obtain any single version of this book.

Of course there are two facts working in the favour of this book 1. first it's about the 5th Lighthorse & 2 It's written by Ion L. Idriess who has found his own fame over recent years. During early WW1 Idriess joined the 5th Light Horse as a trooper. For three years he kept a diary recounting his experiences, first at Gallipoli and then in the Palestine and Sinai campaigns. He recorded in his fine writing style the realities of his war - the horrors of trench war, friendship, the bad tucker , the heat , dust , flies , boredom and most importantly the war and events which are dated.

It's all here descriptions of major battles, life and times as a Light Horse Trooper. Forms a compliment history of the 5th Light Horse.
