Whilst the Vietnam War was largely a land based conflict the Royal Australian Navy undertook an important roll. HMAS Sydney and other units of the RAN formed a major support to land based forces in Vietnam. A full and accurate history supported by many personal photographs of the Ships and Men. Several appendix complete the book including, Technical layout of the ships, Details of the voyages undertaken by the HMAS Sydney and support ships, Deployments etc.

The author also investigates Federal Government’s decision to exclude from benefits and entitlements those who served in Sydney, Jeparit and Boonaroo and the warships that escorted them into the war zone.

The author served on HMAS Sydney in 1967, was posted to HMAS Yarra 1967–68, returning to Sydney 1972-73. Both ships were deployed on operational service in Vietnamese waters during these periods.
Some 13,000 members of the RAN  participated in the Vietnam War.
