Far Above Battle ' by Margaret Barter - basically a history of the 2 AIF 2 Battlion during WW2.

Published by Allen & Unwin Sydney Aust. First published 1994 and this is that 1st edition.
It is the story specifically of the men of the 2/2 Infantry Battalion AIF which served the UK and fought in the Middle East, Greece, Crete and Papua New Guinea.
This is an excellent book for overall Australian war research. Far Above the Battle is ultimately about human reactions to the realities, fears and dangers of frontline experiences. Through letters, diaries and veteran interviews the battlefield is brought alive with rare and profound clarity.

A wonderful painstaking researched book which was written by Barter to honour her Father and his mates (members of the 2/2 Battalion)who took part in Siege of Tobruk April 1941 to December 1941 and came back to save Australia in 1942. There is a whole paragraph headed ' Chocko War ' which is a great history of Australian Militia battalions thrown in to Kokoda to stem the Japanese advance - When the 39th Battalion was disbanded many of its members were transferred to the 2 Battalion AIF .
