  • Albert Jacka
    <p>Captain Albert Jacka VC MC and Bar - 14th Battalion History Military Books. A country boy from Wedderburn out Bendigo way, Jacka became an Australian legend hero of WW1. He was the first Australian to be awarded the Victoria Cross medal in World War One. He defended and retook a Australian trench under attack from Turkish Ottoman troops during the Battle of Gallipoli 1915 above Anzac Cove. Later on the Western Front Jacka performed gallant feats at Battles of Pozieres and 1st Bullecourt for which he received the Military Cross medal twice. Due to his opposition to senior command decisions he was overlooked for further promotion and award. He come back to Australia a National Hero. In the early 1930's he suffered from old war wounds and died. He is buried at St Kilda cemetery.</p>

    <p>Collection of books written about or by General John Monash. Monash was Australia's foremost commander during World War I. He was a civil engineer who went on to command the AIF during WW1. Monash was the first soldier in 200 years to be knighted by a British King on the battlefield.</p>
