First published just after WWI in 1919. The book is a wonderful walk back in time. A fascinating collection of WWI Australian soldiers' slang, with definitions of each word. Also sections on the soldiers' use of Italian, pidgin, Persian, Russian and Hindustani. The language was collected by Walter Hubert Downing of the 57th Battalion. A.I.F. and others. Downing who was a Military Medal recipient, also wrote 'To the Last Ridge', an account of his war service.

'To the Last Ridge' is an acknowledged book for the descriptive prose about the battles.

Excellent book for WW1 history researchers.
