The Australian Airline Section 1914-18 was a Light Horse Unit providing communication services across the desert. They laid the communication wires on poles in the air thus the reference to 'Airline'.
At times they were required to fix downed lines in front-line areas and did come under fire especially while 'sitting ducks' up the poles. Most men held a technical background - they may have had experience with telephone communications and carpenters were required for pole construction.
This document is a two-page document showing the nominal roll of the unit - name, number, rank and remarks.
