Missing in Action

The story takes us back to the time just after World War I.

45,000 Australians had died on the Western Front. Their love ones back home wanted answers, where were they buried, how did they die, what was happening to preserve their memory? Were just a few of the many questions from the numerous inquiries.

Many of these inquiries would have to be answered, by the newly established Australian Grave Services and the Australian Red Cross. There were bound to be mistakes, in the end there was a great scandal, with allegations of body hoaxing and gross misappropriation of money and Army possessions. This led to two highly secretive inquiries being held.

While not a unit history of the Australian Grave Services it does supply many details about the men, life and times of that unit.

This book does provide answers about a period and a unit that has previously not been well researched.
