ACROSS THE BAR HISTORY SIMPSON & DONKEY GALLIPOLI

The first full biography of the Gallipoli hero John Simpson Kirkpatrick, told like a novel but with facts and backgrounds thoroughly researched, from his childhood in Shields, UK, to soldiers' memories of the first month on Gallipoli.

Important first hand information about Simpson was sourced for the book from ANZAC Veteran Bert Baker who was a best friends with Simpson at ANZAC, "Simmo's mate". At a 1984 Gallipoli Veterans reunion in Canberra a Bundaberg teacher, Michael Rimmer first heard of the association between Baker and Simpson. Rimmer thought that Baker's wealth of stories about Simpson had to be recorded so he traveled the 3000 km tp Perth to obtain Baker's story..

With photographs and maps, letters, footnotes, bibliography and index.
