The author Peter Haran joined the Army in 1966 and served in Vietnam during 1967-68 with 2nd Battalion RAR. He was one of the dog handlers. His second tour of Vietnam was with 3rd Battalion in 1971.

The co author, Robert Kearney joined the Australian Army in 1963 and was a member of Airborne Platoon with 1st Battalion before his first tour in Vietnam with 5th Battalion RAR.
He served in Vietnam as a section commander with Recon Platoon. Second tour he was also with 3rd Battalion RAR.
