This war history book lists the author's experiences fighting with the 2/2 Battalion in Syria, after the 2nd Battalion returned to Australia he saw action on the Kokoda trail. Shortly after the battle at Templeton, he was shot in the back by a Japanese sniper.

He lived to tell his story (Shifting Sands and Savage Jungle) but carried the bullet in his lung for 50 years.
