Previously published as single books The Barbarians, The Devil's Garden Solomon Islands Diary, and The Glass Canon printed here in one book. The title " Signaller Johnston's Secret War' is a play against the heads. Pinney said that all the experiences of which are recorded in his books were in fact his own personal experiences.

Likewise with this book, the single books are very difficult to obtain.
