The movie depicts the  Battle of the Bulge (also known as the Ardennes Counteroffensive, and the Von Rundstedt Offensive to the Germans) (16 December 1944 – 25 January 1945) was a major German offensive (die Ardennenoffensive) launched through the densely forested Ardennes mountain region of Wallonia in Belgium, and France and Luxembourg on the Western Front towards the end of World War II.
For the Americans, with about 610,000 men committed and some 89,000 casualties, including 19,000 killed, the Battle of the Bulge was the largest and bloodiest battle fought on the western front in World War II.
It was during this Battle at the Siege of Bastogne, Brig. Gen. Anthony McAuliffe, acting commander of the U.S. 101st Airbourne, was told of the Nazi demand to surrender, in frustration he responded, "Nuts!" - McAuliffe had his reply was typed up and delivered to the Germans, the line was made famous and was a morale booster to his troops: "NUTS!". That reply had to be explained, both to the Germans and to non-American Allies.
Battle of the Bulge is a widescreen colour war film produced in Spain that was released in 1965. It was directed by Ken Annakin. It starred Henry Fonda, Robert Shaw, Telly Savalas, Robert Ryan, Dana Andrews and Charles Bronson.
