Being a radio ham operator Bell had a natural talent for radio electronics. Thus he first served in Milne Bay Radar Unit at Gili Gili Plantation and later with Radar Station 331. He was awarded an MBE for his service during the Battle of New Britain where he was member of 335 Radio Station Pilelo Island. About 70 pages are devoted to his WW2 service.
