After the Fall of Singapore in 1942, 65 Australian nurses try to escape on the ship Vyner Brooke. Within days the vessel is sunk and the surviving nurses found themselves washed up on Bangka Island. This is the Story of Sister Betty Jeffery OAM who was captured by Japanese and made a POW for the next +3 years.

Jeffery wrote of her experiences in her own book titled White Coolies. A major movie called Paradise Road was adapted mainly from the details in the White Coolies book.
