O'Neill was the Battalion Intelligence Officer for the
5th Battalion and much of this book was written on the spot in Vietnam from personal experience. Written during operations in Phuoc Tuy Province with 5RAR in 1966 on the 1st tour;
a vivid and compelling picture of the 5th at war in Vietnam from the soldier's point of
view. This book published in 1968 after the return of the 5th Battalion from its first
tour of duty and this is that first edition.
