" Bamboo and Bushido " written by A.G. Allbury.  This is Allbury's story of his three years as a POW first in the labour camps of Singapore then on the Burma Railway. While in a Japanese freighter en route to Japan the ship was torpedoed and 1300 POWs were left to die in the South China Sea. After six days aloft on a raft he was picked by the US submarine U.S.S. Barb . Also taking part in the search was the USS Pampanita USS Queenfish and USS Sealion .
