The 1st Volume of the Australian Centenary History Defence series which covers the History of the Australian Army. This is a detailed history of the Australian Army as an institution it is not a study of the Battles or individual soldiers. Having said that the volume does follow the chronological order of battle of the Australian Army over the 100 years of service.

This book more so lists the major decisions which put the troops on the ground, the internal and external political considerations of the deployment. Army Purchase and use of assets, workings of the Australian Army with the other services and civil groups.
