In March 1943 the 58th/59th arrived at Shrapnel Valley, near Port Moresby. The Battalion's final destination turned out to be the Lae–Salamaua front at Wau and Bulolo and later at Bulwa and Bobdubi Ridge. The Battalion then served in Bougainville’s Southern Sector until war's end.
